ALLIANCE, OH: The Purple Raiders have now won 31 OAC titles in football after taking down Heidelberg 64-14 on Friday night.
Mount Union did not start slow in the title game as Sophomore Braxton Plunk connected with Junior Wayne Ruby Jr. for 62 yards and the Purple Raider touchdown on the first drive to take an early 7-0 lead. Plunk and Ruby would connect again later in the quarter making it 14-0 in the first quarter. Heidelberg struggled to move the ball and with 2:49 left in the first quarter Plunk would find Senior Jaden Manley for a 94-yard touchdown pass that gave the Purple Raiders a 21-0 lead after one.
Mount Union would not slow down and would strike first in the second quarter with a quarterback keeper making it 28-0. Late in the quarter, Senior Josh Petruccelli scored his first touchdown of the season to give Mount Union a 35-0 lead at the break.
Again, the Purple Raiders came out hot and took the first possession of the second half downfield capping it off with another touchdown. The point-after snap was botched but a quick pick up and toss in the end zone led to a successful two-point try making it 43-0 Mount Union. Plunk and Petruccelli would connect in the pass game on the next drive giving the Purple Raiders a 50-0 lead with 4:41 left in the third quarter. Heidelberg was able to put a drive together towards the end of the quarter as Senior Jace Grossman punched it in from a yard out to make it 50-7.
Three rushing touchdowns would make up the final quarter as the Purple Raiders accounted for two of them leading to the 64-14 final from Alliance.
Mount Union improved to 4-0 and won their 31st conference title while Heidelberg finished the season with a 4-1 record.
Marcus Saahir was named the WRMU player of the game due to his constant presence in the pass rush. He finished with three total tackles and two sacks.
