Mount Union Men’s basketball has made great strides this year. The team sits at #14 in the nation and #1 in the OAC. The Raiders’ goal is simple as they eye bigger games: keep winning. Mount Union (17-3) did just that with a sound 85-63 win over Muskingum (8-12) Wednesday night.
The best part about watching the Raiders is that everyone scores on offense. Once again, Nathan Bower-Malone and Collen Gurley led the team. Bower-Malone had 23 points and nine rebounds, While Gurley found 20 points to add. D’Vontay Friga got the start and added 13 points with six rebounds. The offense didn’t stop there, as Logan Hill took advantage of less athletic big men and added 15 points.
The Raiders never trailed after jumping out to a 12-5 lead. Muskingum’s Marcus Dempsey was the focus of the Raider defense. The Junior guard is the top OAC scorer with 30.1 points per game. The Raiders held Dempsey to 28 points after he notched 45 in their first meeting in January. Tanner Slack, Chris Painter and Friga have all cemented themselves as quality defenders.
Next up, Mount Union takes on Otterbein this Saturday at 2 P.M. All eyes will be looking towards next Wednesday’s matchup as the Raiders travel to Marietta. The game can be heard on 91.1 WRMU.
