Over in Division II, Region 7 there are a pair of Canton area teams that are still alive heading into the Region 7 final. Massillon Perry won a tight game with Lewis Center Olentangy by a score of 14-10 on Friday to advance to the regional final. Perry was led by a huge defensive effort especially from linebacker Cayman Williams. Williams came up with a huge pass breakup on the final play of the game to clinch the win for the Panthers. Not very far from Perry High School, the Massillon Washington Tigers continued to roll through the postseason. Washington knocked off Westerville South by a score of 45-36 on Friday night in Massillon. The Tigers were led by a massive night by running back Willtrell Hartson. Hartson rushed for a trio of touchdowns and 324 yards (breaking the previous school record of 302 rushing yards in a game). On Friday November 6th, Massillon Washington will travel to Massillon Perry for the Region 7 championship game.
In a Division VI, Region 21 semifinal matchup, Mogadore traveled to New Middletown Springfield to take on the Tigers. The Wildcats fought hard, but saw their season come to an end in a 21-0 shutout loss. Springfield got a touchdown from quarterback Beau Brungard on an 8-yard run and a pair of touchdowns from Clayton Nezbeth including a fumble return touchdown in the fourth quarter. On November 7th Springfield will host Creston Norwayne High School for their regional championship game.
South Range managed to keep their season rolling in their Division V, Region 17 semifinal matchup. The Raiders hosted Crestview and rode an explosive night on offense to a 45-29 win on Saturday night. South Range got big production from Michael Patrone. Patrone rushed for 259 yards (including a 76-yard touchdown run), passed for 151 yards, and accounted for 71.55% of South Range’s total offensive yards on the night. Next up for the Raiders will be a trip to #1 seeded Kirtland on Saturday November 7th for their regional championship game.
