With the sixth week of the regular season having come and gone, it’s almost playoff time once again in the Buckeye state. Each region’s respective coaches had a two day (Sept. 29-30) period to submit their ballot for the seeding for their region. Without further ado, let’s get underway with how seeding shook out for area teams.
Division 1 Region 1
Stow (4-1) received the #7 seed in region 1 and will host #10 Cleveland Heights in a first-round matchup at Bulldog Stadium on October 9th. The Bulldogs path to a regional title will include #2 Mentor, #3 Canton McKinley and #1 Lakewood St. Edward. All three are in the AP top ten for division one (as of the 9/28 poll) with Mentor checking in at fifth, Canton McKinley coming in at ninth and St. Edwards sitting at fourth (also receiving two first-place votes).
Division 2 Region 5
Kent Roosevelt (0-2) received the #16 seed in region 5 and will host #17 University School on October 9th. Their notable potential opponents will include #1 Akron Archbishop Hoban, #4 Cleveland Benedictine and #2 Austintown-Fitch. In the AP poll (as of 9/28), Hoban continues to hold down first place in the division two poll (receiving 18 first-place votes) and Fitch checks in at eleventh (receiving votes).
Division 3 Region 9
Alliance (0-6) received the #24 seed in region 9 and will travel to #9 Hubbard on October 9th for a first-round matchup. Notable opponents in the Aviators path include #1 Chardon, #4 New Philadelphia, #2 Streetsboro and #3 Canfield. All four of these teams are at least receiving votes in the AP poll for division three (as of 9/28). Chardon has been dominant this year and has been rewarded with the top spot on the division three poll and fourteen first-place votes. Streetsboro checks in at fifth (one first-place vote), Canfield comes in at fourth (one first-place vote) and New Philadelphia is twelfth.
Marlington (3-2) was given the #14 seed in the region and will host #19 Chagrin Falls Kenston on October 9th in the first round. Marlington’s notable potential opponents will include #1 Chardon, #2 Streetsboro, #3 Canfield and #6 Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. ST. V also has made an appearance in the AP poll for division three (as of 9/28). The Irish are sitting at sixteenth and are receiving votes in the poll.
Division 4 Region 13
West Branch (6-0) received the #3 seed in region 13, received a first-round bye and will host the winner of #14 East Liverpool/#19 Gates Mills Gilmour Academy on October 17th in Beloit. The Warriors notable opponents in their path will include #1 Canal Fulton Northwest, #2 Poland Seminary and #6 Youngstown Ursuline. The only team out of these three that has cracked the AP poll is Northwest. Northwest checked in at seventh in the Sept. 28th update to the division four poll.
Salem (3-3) received the #15 seed in the region and will host #18 Struthers in a first-round matchup on October 10th. Notable opponents that the Quakers could potentially run into include #1 Northwest, #2 Poland Seminary and #3 West Branch. West Branch is currently ranked eleventh in the division four poll as of Sept. 28th (receiving one first-place vote).
Division 5 Region 17
Canfield South Range (6-0) received the #2 seed in region 17, will receive a first-round bye and host the winner of #15 Harrison Central/#18 Rootstown on October 17th. South Range’s notable possible opponents will include #3 Garrettsville Garfield and #1 Kirtland. As of the Sept. 28th update to the AP poll, Garfield was sitting seventh and Kirtland checked in at first (also receiving sixteen first-place votes).
Garrettsville Garfield (6-0) was rewarded for a great season with #3 seed in their region. Garfield received a first-round bye and will host the winner of #14 Cardinal Mooney/#19 Conneaut on October 17th. Their notable potential opponents will include #1 Kirtland and #2 Canfield South Range. South Range joined the G-Men in the latest AP poll and checked in at third (receiving one first-place vote).
Division 6 Region 21
Mogadore (4-1) received the #4 seed in region 21, received a first-round bye and will host the winner of #13 Columbia Station/#20 Sullivan Black River on October 17th. The Wildcats’ path to a regional title will include #5 Pymatuning Valley, #1 New Middletown Springfield and #2 Wickliffe. In the Sept. 28th update to the division six AP poll, Pymatuning Valley checked in at twelfth (receiving votes), Springfield was sitting fourth (receiving one first-place vote) and Wickliffe checked in at sixth in the poll.
Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas (3-2) received the #9 seed in the region and will host #24 Newton Falls in a first-round matchup on October 10th. St. Thomas Aquinas’ notable possible opponents will include #1 New Middletown Springfield, #2 Wickliffe, and #4 Mogadore. The Wildcats joined Springfield and Wickliffe in the latest AP poll and came in at tenth.
Division 7 Region 25
Leetonia (5-1) received the #3 seed in region 25 and will have a first-round bye. The Bears will host the winner of #14 Wellsville/#19 Buckeye Central in the second round on October 16th. Leetonia’s notable potential opponents will include #1 Warren JFK and #2 Lucas. In the Sept. 28th update to the AP poll, Warren JFK came in at fifth (receiving one first-place vote) and Lucas checked in at eighth. The Bears also managed to crack the top ten and are ranked tenth.
