ALLIANCE, OH: The Purple Raiders have now won four in a row against conference rival, John Carroll, after a 52-27 victory on Saturday night.  

Mount Union got it started quickly, taking their first drive down the field and capping it off with a touchdown from junior Wayne Ruby Jr. to make it 7-0 early. They would force a quick three and out and repeat their efforts on the second drive, taking a 14-0 lead with just under six minutes left in the first quarter. John Carroll would go from here scoring two touchdowns of their own before the quarter ended. 

The second quarter began with a Mount Union fumble that would give the Blue Streaks great field position with the chance to take the lead. John Carroll capitalized as senior Jake Floriea found junior Devin Limerick on an 18-yard connection to take a 21-14 lead with 14:13 till the break. Mount Union would respond with 21 unanswered before the half and would head to the locker room with a 35-21 lead. 

John Carroll started the half with the ball and quickly cut into the lead but a missed point after left the score at 35-27 Purple Raiders. This would be the end of the day for John Carroll’s offense as the rest of the game was all Mount Union. The Purple Raiders responded in two minutes when senior Jaden Manely made the catch off the defender in the end zone to make it 42-27. 

The Purple Raiders would add ten more points in the final frame in the form of a field goal and a seventh passing touchdown for sophomore Braxton Plunk. 

Mount Union improved to 2-0 with the 52-27 win, and John Carroll would fall even to 1-1 after the loss. 

Braxton Plunk and Wayne Ruby Jr. were named co-WRMU players of the game. Plunk looked great again going 38/58 for 521 yards and seven touchdowns. While Wayne Ruby Jr. Was without a doubt his top target with 16 receptions, 182 yards and four touchdowns.  

Mount Union will be off next weekend and will be back in action at home against Marietta on Friday April 2ndKickoff will be at 7:00pm and 91.1 WRMU will provide coverage of the game.
