ALLIANCE, OH: After 25 years in Salem, Virginia at Salem Stadium the NCAA announced that the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl switched venues. In both 2018 and 2019 the game was played in Shenandoah, Texas at Woodforest Bank Stadium. This year and next year were supposed to be played in Canton, Ohio at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium but due to COVID-19 Canton will only host in 2021. The NCAA has now announced the host of the Stagg Bowl through 2025.
In 2022, for the first time ever the Stagg Bowl will be played in Annapolis, Maryland at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. In 2023 the game will return to the longtime home in Salem, Virginia at Salem Stadium. In 2024, it will return to Texas but in Humble, Texas at Turner Stadium the home of Mary-Hardin Baylor. In 2025 Canton, Ohio will get another shot to host at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Since 1973, there has been 47 Stagg Bowl games. The first ten took place in Phenix City, Alabama. Then they played two games in Kings Island, Ohio before returning to Phenix City for five more years. Bradenton, Florida hosted for three years before Salem, Virginia became the long-time host from 1993-2017. With these announcements Annapolis and Humble will get their first chance to host the big game.
