MVB v. Trine

Alliance, OH – The Raiders entered Sunday’s doubleheader versus Trine with the chance to extend their win streak to eight and they capitalized on it. Mount Union extended their win streak to eight games with a sweep in the first game and a 3-1 win in the second game against Trine.

The first game was all Raiders from start to finish. In each set, the Raiders managed to put together a run or two that separated them from Trine. They took the three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-14 respectively. In the second game, Trine came to play and really pushed the Raiders. Across all four sets, the teams went point for point and traded small runs the entire game. The Raiders were up three late in the first set (24-21) when Trine rallied to tie the set at 24-24. After a few more hard-fought rallies, a block by Mount Union’s Justin Sibbel clinched the set for the Raiders (28-26). The second set was tightly contested to start before a kill by Trine’s Parker Beale tied the set at 11-11 and started a 4-0 run by Trine. From there Trine never looked back, stayed comfortably in the lead for the rest of the set, and won the set 25-19. The third set was incredibly tight the whole way and saw the two teams tied on seventeen occasions. Finally, after a kill by Trine’s Kyle Dixon tied the set at 23-23, a pair of kills by Sibbel and Luke Trzeciak put the set away for the Raiders (25-23). In the fourth set, Trine consistently was in the lead for most of the way before a kill by Sam Matonis kickstarted a 4-0 run by the Raiders that put them up 19-17. From there on the Raiders held onto the lead and a kill by Andrew Cross finally put the set (25-19) and the game away for the Raiders.

With the wins, the Raiders improved to 10-2 (6-2 MCVL) on the season and moved up to fourth in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League standings. Next up for the Raiders, they will host Penn State-Behrend on Thursday, March 11th and the match is set to start at 7:30 PM.
