On the morning of December 22, 2020, the University of Mount Union released a statement providing an update on the current state of athletics for the Purple Raiders.
The statement affirmed that the University plans to go into 2021 with the intent to conduct intercollegiate athletics with the health of all athletes, coaches and other university staff as their top priority.
Mount Union also stated a commitment to follow all recommendations that the NCAA and the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) release when it comes to testing and hosting events. The university will also be coordinating with the Alliance City and Stark County Health Departments to ensure that all protocols and procedures from the local, state and federal levels are being followed correctly.
In regard to hosting events, the university confirmed officially that spectators will not be permitted to attend games at least through March 1, 2021, in accordance with a mandate from the OAC. The policy will be re-evaluated at that time and a decision will be made on whether to extend it further into the year.
Additionally, the university stated that the NCAA has approved a blanket waiver which will allow athletes to participate this year without losing a year of their eligibility.
Athletics at Mount Union are set to kick off again in late January 2021 and schedules can be found online at athletics.mountunion.edu.
