The 2019 Christmas Festival performed by the Mount Union Choir was a huge hit this past weekend.
The concert, held in the Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts, was titled “Born in This Moment.” It began with a lighting of the Peace Candle, highlighting the light that unites us all, and the light from the north star on Christmas night over two thousand years ago.
Music Director Dr. Cook made sure the audience was fully engaged, inviting the crowd to stand with the beginning piece, “O, Come All Ye Faithful,” as the choir processed onto the stage.
Throughout the performance, the audience learned the Christmas story through song and verse. Members of the choir spoke to the crowd through poetry about what God had planned on that night when Jesus Christ was born. Verses rang out like, “And born into that turmoil so bright or so dark as to render all points moot, God’s pronouncement and first measure.”
The choir displayed their many talents through a number of beautiful pieces, such as “Little Lamb,” “O Love,” and “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.” The choir also made it a point to include Christmas classics that included, “Away in a Manger,” “Hark! The Herald Angel Sing,” and “Gloria!”
Towards the end of the performance, the choir included a nod to the Jewish understanding of the holiday, with “Unending Flame.”
The final piece was of the night was as beautiful as it gets for the Christmas season. The choir had the audience rise to their feet and sing along to “Silent Night.”
The 2019 Christmas Festival was truly a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season and have the Mount Union community come together before winter break. Congrats to Dr. Cook and the entire Mount Union choir on a wonderful performance.
