As the Alpha Chi Carnival came to a close, multiple guests at the carnival went home with a new friend or two.

Carnival Goldfish make great companions, but there are some things that you need to know if you want your new friend to live a happy fish life while in your care.

Goldfish are a freshwater fish. They come in a variety of different breeds, shapes, colors, and sizes. If you are a new goldfish owner, there are some things that you should take into account when preparing a nice living space for your new pal.

A suitable home: Goldfish need space. They tend to enjoy the classic fish bowl, but small tanks are also encouraged. One suggestion I have is to not leave them in the bag that you brought them home in. The lack of space can cause your fish to be stressed. The water in the tank should range between 55-80 degrees and should be kept clean at all times. Goldfish prefer to have friends with them. This means that you should have more than one fish in your tank to ensure the best social life for your fish.

Feeding time: Be aware, your fish is ALWAYS hungry. Goldfish are opportunistic

feeders and will not stop eating if you give them the chance. Overfeeding your fish can hurt them, and leave them unsatisfied or even dead. To find the best food and feeding plan for your new companion, visit your local pet shop to talk to an associate worker or visit caringpets.org.

Take time today to learn more about your new carnival goldfish friend. Your fish will appreciate your dedication to them, and will in return live a happy life that makes you smile each time you go to talk to them about your life problems.
