Alliance, OH – The Raiders welcomed Baldwin-Wallace to town Saturday for their home (and Ohio Athletic Conference) opener. The Yellow Jackets put up a mighty fight but, were unable to overcome the Raiders and lost 31-7.
The Raiders got on the board first when Josh Petruccelli scored on a 1-yard touchdown run (PAT was good) with 7:24. On the very next drive, Kegan Armitage and the Yellow Jackets drove through the heart of the Mount Union defense and found paydirt. Armitage found tight end Andrew Cregan in the endzone from five yards out (PAT is good) to tie the game at 7-7 with 1:08 left in the opening quarter. The Raiders responded right back and leaned heavily on running back Deandre Parker once they got inside the BW 10-yard line. Fourth time ended up being the charm for the Raiders when Parker punched it in from the 1-yard line on fourth and goal after falling short on the previous three downs. The PAT was good and put the Raiders up 14-7. That would be the last scoring of the half.
Mount Union increased their lead in the third quarter when Nick Deack knocked down a 35-yard field goal to put the Raiders up 17-7 with 4:24 left in the third stanza. Coach Dartt’s squad managed to tack on another pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter: a 10-yard touchdown run by Parker and a 31-yard touchdown reception by Petruccelli from Braxton Plunk (PAT was good after each). These scores put the Raiders up 31-7. Baldwin-Wallace was unable to put anymore points up on the board and were shutout in the second half.
Plunk completed 29/43 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown for Mount Union. Armitage completed 14/25 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown for the Yellow Jackets. Darius Stokes had 6 catches for 56 yards for BW and for Mount Union, Wayne Ruby Jr had 10 catches for 128 yards. On the ground, Parker led the way for the Raiders with 75 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. For Baldwin-Wallace, Jon Murray Jr ran for 99 yards in the loss.
