10 Ways that Smartphones Help Society
Posted: March 14, 2017

Smartphones are an essential part of our everyday life. It’s rare to find people without a phone, and its beginning to be rare to find someone without a smartphone. Regardless of the smartphone being Apple or an Android, here are the ten ways that smartphones are beneficial to today’s society:

1. GPS

The idea that smartphones let you track your location and obtain directions is an important aspect of our devices. They even allow you to connect to your car, which will issue voice announcements of the directions, That way, you can listen to music and get to your location on time.

 2. Emails

We all get emails, but sometimes we do not want to search through them on our computer. That’s where your lovely smartphone comes in the picture. Smartphones offer the ability to read and reply to your emails while you're on-the-go.

 3. Capture Moments

A couple years ago, cameras on phones were a foreign concept. But, phone companies keep improving the quality of the camera that is attached to your phone. Cameras help capture moments in people’s lives, and we may not always be carrying a camera, but we always have our phone.

 4. Social Media

Social Media is popular. Different forms of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram have apps that you can download on your phone (if you have space...). The truth is, is that having access to social media on our phones can prevent actual communication. And, since we always have our phone, we're connected 24/7.

 5. Music

Within the last decade, music was only available through Ipod's and MP3 players, but times have changed. Pandora, Spotify, and Apple music contain music that you don’t necessarily have to download on your phone. You also don’t have to have an Ipod or music player or anything of that nature because smartphones allow you the freedom to listen directly on your device.

 6. Weather

This may seem like a little thing now, but before smartphones, we had to watch television and listen to the radio to know what the weather was going to be like. Fortunately, now we get notifications or have an app that tells us what the weather is like, regardless of our location. I'd say that we are lucky.

 7. Alarms

Alarm clocks used to be something everyone used, but certainly not within our generation. We are so hooked on our phone that we even trust them to make sure we wake up on time for our classes or jobs. I actually had to buy an alarm clock when my phone was out of commission, and for anyone who has had the experience of your phone not working, you probably appreciate how far the phone has come.

10 Ways that Facebook and Twitter are Being Used
Posted: February 12, 2017

Twitter and Facebook are two of the social medias that people are drawn to. Telling a story with a series of tweets and posts, or updating and informing their followers on their life, is what twitter and Facebook is for many. College students tend to look at their phones often, and it is probably to check their social media feeds. I know I do when I’m not too busy. But, did you know that there are many ways that Twitter and Facebook are being used among college students? Or that social media can help us understand people? Numerous college students have some form of social media whether it is Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, or even all of them. Young adults have consistently been the heaviest users of social media by a substantial margin, and today that’s even more true: a staggering 90% of them use social media, according to a 2015 Pew Research Center study. That’s a 78% increase from the 12% who were using social media back in 2005. As mentioned, there are many ways and reasons that people use these social media platforms and here they are:

Father John Misty - “Pure Comedy”
Posted: February 07, 2017

As has become a regular tradition for modern artists, Americana/Indie superhero Father John Misty has released the complete track list on iTunes for his upcoming album Pure Comedy.  It will feature 13 songs, two of which have been released so far, the song “Pure Comedy,” which shares its name with the album, and “Two Wildly Different Perspectives.” Along with “Pure Comedy,” Father John Misty, whose real name is Josh Tillman, released a 25 minute documentary, which features him, among other things, recording music, and driving around LA. Along with the documentary, he also released a music video for “Pure Comedy,” which could be found on his YouTube channel. It is my personal belief that Tillman, a former member of Fleet Foxes, has been one of the most consistent celebrities in Indie rock, gaining fame for his eclectic style, which is often documented in GQ, or his hilarious stories about interactions with celebrities (including an LSD infused experience at a Taylor Swift concert that he wrote about for Rolling Stone).
